When Life Gives You Lululemons

Hello Lit Babes,

Lauren Weisberger's latest novel is light, funny and modern, and a must read for those who like to laugh.  I mean it's hilarious.  The author has a wicked sense of humor.  Her writing is fast paced and easy reading.  I can see Emily Charlton all over again with her snarky yet witty personality.  Remember when she told Andy Sachs, "I'm sorry, do you have some prior commitment? Some hideous skirt convention you have to go to?"  Lauren's epic writing style has those same wonderfully entertaining and amusing one liners that are just so on point and did I say funny?

I must have watched, The Devil Wears Prada a 100 times.  It's just fun and puts you in a good mood.  If you don't like The Devil Wears Prada we can't be friends.

Moving on!  Emily Charlton is back and she is L.A.'s image consultant to the stars up until recently.  She finds herself losing her edge and her top clients.  Somehow she has to find her way back.  How on earth is Emily going to make it if she keeps losing her clients to the hot new younger girl in town, Olivia Belle.

Insert Connecticut, where former Victoria Secret Angel, and former face of Loreal, Karolina Hartwell was arrested for drunk driving with children in tow.  Apparently empty bottles of champagne were rolling around in the vehicle.  Does Senator Graham Hartwell's wife have a serious drinking problem?

Former hot shot Manhattan attorney, Miriam Kagan, friend of Emily moves to Greenwich to take time off and spend time with her children and husband.  Emily Charlton who is now based in L.A. hears about her number one client pop star Rizzo Benz wearing a very inappropriate costume to a party at 1 Oak in New York.  Emily receives the call from his manager and hops on a plane even though it is New Year's Eve going on New Year's Day.   Once she arrives, she learns that Rizzo wants to go in a different direction and hires Emily's nemisis Olivia Belle.  Emily is livid and takes an Uber to Miriam in Connecticut, because god forbid she is seen taking a train.

She enters Miriam's world of stretchy workout pants and Athleta jackets as the daytime attire in her town.  Miriam introduces Emily to the gorgeous Karolina and after sometime Emily decides that Karolina will be the perfect way to get her groove back.  If she helps Karolina with this horrific scandal she will be back on top.

The story continues with vodka soaked tampons, Frette bath sheets and Eres bikinis.  New York Senator Graham Hartwell has no idea what he is in for, and Emily will be the one to give to him and someone else too!

When Life Gives You Lululemons has a fantastic ending, my only question is, who is Alex?  Please Lauren Weisberger do tell!  You'll know who i'm talking about it once you read the book.

It's the perfect summer read and would be great reading at the beach or pool.  It would be fun to read with a group of girls to just chat about it after, the laughing will ensue and perhaps the champagne too.

I loved this book and you will too.  You can pre-order now on Amazon here:

Adventures with The High Tide Club

Mary Kay Andrews takes you to white pristine beaches along the coast of Georgia, to an island called Talisa.  This little piece of paradise is littered with swamp myrtle, palmettos and cabbage palms, festooned with blooming jasmine.

The adventure begins when a nonagenarian heiress, Josephine Bettendorf Warrick, who lives on the 12,000 acre barrier island, solicits Brooke Trappnell, an almost broke attorney for two things, to prevent the state from taking her private island away via condemnation and to make things right with her friends from the past.

The narrative flashes back to the days that four women, Josephine, Millie, Ruth and Varina were hanging out together under a moonlit night to go skinny dipping.  The very first time they did it, on Mermaid Beach, they formed a pack to always meet on a beach somewhere in the world to go skinny dipping when the moon was full.  They called it, "The High Tide Club."

The High Tide Club mostly takes place at Shellhaven, the 15 room pale pink Mediterranenean revival  mansion framed with two sentinel palm trees.  It's steeped in history, mystery and a murder with a body that was never found.  The story unfolds when southern belle Millie is engaged to Russell Strickland.  Things happen that night at her engagement party that these four women have kept secret for decades.

The book shifts back and forth between the point of views of the four main characters living in the 1940's to modern times as Brooke searches and unravels the stories and secrets these women have woven throughout their lives.

Brooke has her very own secrets as well and it includes her son named Henry.  While Brooke is busy working for the heiress, she has her own life to figure out.

The High Tide Club is a pleasant and wonderful read with descriptive backdrops and colorful character development.  This was a fun and interesting read about the bonds women make in their lives and the secrets they keep even amongst people they love.

The ending gave me that wonderful feeling inside, but I can't tell you anymore as I don't want to spoil it for you.

The High Tide Club by Mary Kay Andrews debuts May 8th, 2018 just in time for summer.  It's a fabulous summer read.
